Valle Oropa - Montagna biellese

Oropa Valley is famous for its marian sanctuary devoted to the Black Virgin, it is placed in the drainage basin of Oropa stream and the highest summit is Mount Mars at 2,600 m.a.s.l., shared with Elvo and Aosta Valleys.

Mount Mars has its own Natural Reserve in the Aostan territory of Fontainemore, which continues in Oropa Valley with the Special Natural Reserve of “Sacro Monte di Oropa” (a devotional complex).

Every 5 years a procession of devotees goes from Fontainemore to Oropa; it is a 4-century-old tradition and the next edition will be in 2020. Lately, Oropa has also been a stage in the bicycle Tour of Italy.

You can access from Biella and, after the Sanctuary and the Cablecar, continue toward Cervo Valley on the road Federico Rosazza; on this last section the access is forbidden to campers and currently the tunnel has no lighting.
