“Delfo e Agostino Coda” Hut is owned by C.A.I. Biella and it is located at 2,280 mt on the ridge between Elvo and Gressoney valleys, therefore it is a nice destination also for Aostan people.
It is the last stop-over for what concerns Biella’s Alps both for GTA – Gran Traversata Alpina (a long-distance hiking trail in Piedmont) and Alta Via (high trail). Nonetheless, it is also a stop during Tor des Geants since its first edition.
The construction was funded by Agostino Coda in memory of his son Delfo, partisan, killed by the nazis during World War II.
The easier access, ranked E-excursion with some fixed rope, which lines up with GTA itinerary, is from Oropa Valley, where you can also use the cablecar.
Here you can find the description of the access by Elvo Valley, ranked E-excursion but with a considerable difference in altitude: 1,300 mt. This path hosts the trail running Sordevolo-Rifugio Coda in mid July.
You have to leave the car near the bridge on Elvo stream, accessible along the paved road named Tracciolino from Oropa or Graglia. There you can see the excessive farm road, recently built, that rises along the river on the orographic left, and then becomes path C3 near Cabrin bridge.
After crossing it, you will continue to follow the stream and then climbing on the orographic right after Alpe Piane at 1,303 mt up to the outstanding Alpe La Sella at 1,813 mt. From this point, the path meets some rock outcrops and climbs decisively up to the pass where Coda Hut stands.
Start: bridge on Elvo stream along Tracciolino road or Oropa
